Physical Science:  From Baseball to Baking Brownies; how everything you do is described by Chemistry and Physics

  • Ages: 12 and up
  • Minimum # of students: 4
  • Maximum # of students: 15
  • Class Fee: $25/month
  • Supply Fee: $30; teacher will notify families if any additional money is needed later in the year.

Students will be introduced to the principles of Chemistry and Physics, from the periodic table of elements to Newton’s Laws of Motion. Lessons and lab activities will show students how the principles apply to the real world, from the food they eat to the games they play.

Physics will cover the basics of Newtonian Physics, including laws of motion, an understanding of how geometry can be used to predict the path of moving objects, and the basics of thermodynamics. They will also learn about simple machines and the way a little effort can produce a lot of work. Chemistry will introduce students to the atomic theory of matter, the periodic table of elements, chemical reactions, chemical equations, and the connection between chemistry and physics on the micro and macro levels. Learning will be both academic as well as practical and hands on.
